Interviews form the basic selection criteria for most large companies. However, some people think that interview is not a reliable method of choosing whom to employ and there are other better methods. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Interviews are a common practice for many companies when selecting new employees. However, there are some who argue that interviews may not be the most reliable method of choosing the best candidate for a job. In this essay, I will examine the strengths and weaknesses of using interviews as a selection criteria and consider alternative methods of employee selection. 
On the one hand, interviews can be a useful tool for employers to get a sense of a candidate's qualifications, skills, and personality. Through asking questions and observing the candidate's responses, employers can gain insight into how the candidate would perform in the job and fit into the company culture. Additionally, interviews can provide an opportunity for the candidate to ask questions and learn more about the company and the role they are applying for.
 On the other hand, interviews can be subject to bias and may not always accurately predict a candidate's job performance. Research has shown that certain factors such as a candidate's appearance, race, gender, and even their name can unconsciously influence an interviewer's perception of the candidate. Additionally, some candidates may be better at interviewing than others, even if they are not the best fit for the job. Alternative methods such as work sample test, job knowledge test, assessment centers, and reference check are also used to verify the candidate's skills and experience.
In conclusion, While interviews can be an effective way to gain insight into an applicant's personality and communication skills, they also have limitations and may not be the most reliable method of choosing whom to employ. Alternative methods such as work sample tests and  job simulations should also be considered as they can provide a more objective and well-rounded evaluation of the candidate's qualifications.
